Silver Springs Shores is located about 7 miles east of Ocala. It is home to more than 11,000 of Marion County’s estimated 225,000 residents. Silver Springs Shores is a census-designated place (CDP) in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,539 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area.*
Silver Springs Shores covers 22,000 acres and was designed and developed by AMREP Southeast Incorporated in the late 1960s to early 1970s. The community, often referred to by locals as simply “the shores,” serves primarily as a bedroom community for Ocala. It is the largest community in southeast Marion County.
ABOUT OCALA: Officially named “The Horse Capital of the World,” Ocala is home to several ranches, rural and bedroom communities including The Shores. The central location is ideal for people that prefer a slower pace. Ocala is ideally located about an hour and a half drive to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine and less than an hour from Gainseville. It is also a safe distance from annual hurricanes and coastland flooding.
